Eyeglasses Fairs & Exhibitions Dates

COVID 2019 affected too many lives. Quarantine, an old time pandemic remedy is proven today that it is the most effective temporary solution to prevent virus spread until the discovery of a proven vaccination. One of the colossal impacts was the cancellation of several exhibitions. PhotonExport planned to attend the MIDO 2020 exhibition in Milan in the month of March. Unfortunately, the exhibition was postponed and was later canceled.  PhotonExport Team will meet you again in Milan in the next year, i.e., 2021.

Since PhotonExport has a strong presence in Brazil, we had also planned to attend Abiotptica exhibition in São Paulo, in April 2020.  However regrettably, the exhibition was postponed to the end of September 2020. SILMO exhibition in Paris has kept its schedule and will be held in Paris from 2^nd to 4^th of October.

Scientific congress was held online using the existing webinar applications. Is it possible for Fairs to go online too? It seems to be an immense challenge for Eyeglass Fairs. Obviously, eyeglasses fashion mixes with lens manufacturing techniques and visitors need to see, touch and feel them.

Exhibitions generate value for the organizer, and also numerous local companies benefit from visitors and potential customers. But the main objective of an exhibition is to develop sales in short and long term basis, and to showcase new products, establish and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers.

How can we measure the economic impact due to a cancelled exhibition? If the impact is high, then how long will it take for the companies to recover from it? If this impact is low, then how will the companies adapt to the new trend of less frequent Fairs or the tendency of “online exhibitions only”. This trend is hard to imagine. However, it will at least have the benefits of saving plane trips and therefore it will lead to less detrimental environmental impacts. May be the impact due to cancellation and postponement of tradeshows and fairs must be assessed in conjunction with environmental impact.
